Cerro Tovar, Parque del Viento

Posted on December 1, 2023February 9, 2024 by Ultimate Guide

About: This is a wonderful, relatively easy-to-access viewpoint, perfect for a picnic on a nice day or to watch the sunset (or sunrise). It offers 360° views as it is situated on top of a hill. There is a huge cross at the top as well. The road to get up winds around the hill and can be rough and somewhat narrow, but there is usually not too many cars and there are wider areas for two vehicles to pass. If you go slow, there is no danger. Any car can make it, but 4×4 is always a better option. At the top is a makeshift parking area, and then you take a short walk up a nice, wide, paved path to the cross. It is free, and there is nothing sold there. You can see the surrounding mountains and wind turbines. It’s great for kids to run around.

Province: Guanacaste

Starting from: La Fortuna / Monteverde

Time to reach from starting location: 1 hour 40 minutes / 1 hour 19 minutes

Time needed for activity: as much as you want

Kid friendly: Yes

Wheelchair accessible: Yes

What to wear and bring: Drinks, snacks or a pack lunch, sunscreen, insect repellent, hat, sunglasses, and warm clothes

Tips: There isn’t much to do, but it is a nice spot on a clear day to enjoy being outside. It is very windy, so definitely bring warm clothes especially if you are watching the sunset. This is an ideal pit stop on the way from Monteverde to La Fortuna, or vice versa.
