Ficus La Raiz

Posted on September 27, 2023February 11, 2024 by Ultimate Guide

About: This impressive ficus tree forms a natural bridge with its roots high above the ground. There are several entrances, some from the top (from Calle El Sol) and some from the bottom (from Ruta a Santuario Ecologico). They all connect near the tree, but descending from the top or going up from the bottom is not the easiest feat. A small fee is required depending when and where you enter from. If entering from the bottom, you may need to cross the river. It is a short but technical walk down and up from most entrances.

Province: Puntarenas

Starting from: Monteverde

Time to reach from starting location: 3 minutes

Time needed for activity: as much as you want

Kid friendly: Recommended 5+

Wheelchair accessible: No

What to wear and bring: Comfortable clothes, walking or hiking shoes, insect repellent, sunscreen, poncho or rain jacket, hat, water, snacks

Tips: I recommend thinking about where you would prefer to see the tree from, below or above, to decide where to enter from. Above you have the chance to walk on the tree bridge. Below you will have a better view of the tree.
