About: This museum is named after the national hero Juan Santamaria. The museum is housed in a former prison and barracks. It centers its exhibits on the National Campaign of 1856-1857 against the filibusters. It has a wide variety of permanent and temporary exhibits and displays including photographs, murals, replicas, dioramas, and more. A guide can take you to the roof to have views of downtown Alajuela and the surrounding areas. They have a small bookshop of books available for purchase.
