About: This is an active volcano with a spectacular crater and it is open to the public. It is close to the city and therefore one of the most popular destinations. Since it is an active volcano, the access has changed over the years as new eruptions have occured and the safety of visitors is the most important thing. Currently it requires advanced reservations, a preview video that gives some history of the volcano as well as safety instructions, and a helmet is now required to wear while visiting the viewing platforms by the crater. It is a short hike from the visitors center to the observation platforms. There are other trails that lead to a lagoon, however, you may need to ask about those as they are usually closed but they may open access if you ask. The visitors center has a cafe where food and drinks are sold, as well as a gift shop with a wide variety of souvenirs.
