Tesoro Escondido Waterfall

Posted on September 24, 2024July 17, 2024 by Ultimate Guide

About: This is one of many private properties in the Bajos del Toro region that gives you access to waterfalls. These trails, however, are the only ones that reach the spectacular Tesoro Escondido Waterfall. Along the way there are equally spectacular natural swimming pools to enjoy with their own smaller falls. The water is freezing but it is worth it to get in and enjoy this special place. There is also a hike up a hill to a viewpoint with a structure for taking pictures. There is a cool hanging bridge to cross at the beginning. They have a restaurant, bathrooms and showers, and a camping area.

Province: Alajuela

Starting from: Downtown Alajuela

Time to reach from starting location: 1 hour 42 minutes

Time needed for activity: 3+ hours

Kid friendly: Yes

Wheelchair accessible: No

What to wear and bring: Comfortable clothes, walking or hiking shoes, sandals or water shoes, swimsuit, towel, change of clothes, sunscreen, insect repellent, hat, sunglasses, camera, backpack, water, snacks, pack lunch

Tips: It can get crowded as it gets later in the day, especially on the weekends and holidays, so it is best to go right when they open to have the waterfalls and pools all to yourself. Though there is a restaurant, there are so many beautiful places to have a picnic, you may want to bring a pack lunch or at least snacks so that you’re not in a rush to get back.
