Posted on May 15, 2025December 24, 2024 by Ultimate Guide

About: This is Costa Rica’s natural history museum, home to dinosaur skeletons and other fossils, gem and mineral collections, and taxidermy dioramas, as well as an extensive butterfly collection. It is small in size but filled to the brim with stuff to look at, so you could spend hours here.

Province: San Jose

Starting from: Downtown San Jose

Time to reach from starting location: 13 minutes

Time needed for activity: 3 hours

Kid friendly: Yes

Wheelchair accessible: Yes

What to wear and bring: Comfortable clothes, walking shoes, sunscreen, hat, sunglasses, umbrella, camera, backpack, water, snacks, pack lunch

Tips: It is right across the street from La Sabana Park, so when you finish at the museum, go for a stroll or a picnic at the park. If it’s the rainy season, go to park in the morning and the museum after to avoid the rain.
