Matapalito Beach

Posted on December 8, 2025April 3, 2025 by Ultimate Guide

About: This beach is reached by following the dirt road for a few kilometers after passing the Riu Hotels. The road can get very muddy during the rainy season, so you would need a 4×4 SUV to reach the beach. There is a gate for a private hotel at the end of the road, so you need to park on the side of the road and walk down a short trail to the side of the hotel. There is no food sold here, so definitely come prepared with food and drinks for the day.

Province: Guanacaste

Starting from: Playas del Coco

Time to reach from starting location: 45 minutes

Time needed for activity: 1+ hour

Kid friendly: Yes

Wheelchair accessible: No

What to wear and bring: Comfortable clothes, sandals or water shoes, swimsuit, towel, change of clothes, sunscreen, insect repellent, hat, sunglasses, umbrella or shade, camera, backpack, water, snacks, pack lunch

Tips: If you want to come during rainy season, but are worried your car can’t make it, you can park at Matapalo Beach and then walk the few kilometers. Take plenty of food and water.
