About: While not really a museum, this is a famous Catholic church in Costa Rica with a lot of history. Every year on August 2 people from across the country and even from other countries in Central America make a pilgrimage to visit the “negrita”, a small statue of the Virgin Mary found on a rock by a young girl where the church was later built. The “negrita” can be visited year-round. There is also holy water people wash in or collect in bottles to take home. The church itself is beautiful and holds regular masses. There is a large plaza in front where you can people watch or enjoy a snack. It is in the center of Cartago with many surrounding shops and restaurants.
