About: This is a relatively short and flat set of trail loops (2.5 km total) that is focused on natural or wild sloth sightings. The area is not enclosed and there is no guarantee of seeing sloths. However, there are usually at least a few sloths on property at any given time. You may also see other wildlife like birds, small mammals, lizards, and even snakes. There are guided and self-guided day tours as well as a night tour option, which must be guided.
Province: Alajuela
Starting from: La Fortuna
Time to reach from starting location: 3 minutes
Time needed for activity: 2 hours
Kid friendly: Yes
Wheelchair accessible: Yes, the trail is flat and wide, though not paved.
What to wear and bring: Comfortable clothes, walking or hiking shoes, plenty of sunscreen and insect repellent, hat, poncho and/or umbrella, water, snacks, camera.
Tips: As usual, I recommend the guided tour, since they will provide a lot of information as well as help you spot the sloths. It is not easy for the untrained eye. If you do the self-guided tour you can choose which path to take to make your loop around the property according to the time you have or how far or long you wish to walk.
