About: This is an amazing national park with several hikes, peaks, and points of interest, most notably Cerro Chirripo, which is the highest peak in Costa Rica. It requires a permit to visit, and reservations usually book out months in advance. There are 2 towns you may begin your hike from, San Gerardo de Rivas and San Jeronimo. From both it is about 14 kilometers to the base camp where there is a large lodge where meals and rooms are located for those who made previous reservations. Many people stay for at least 1 or 2 nights, since there are many other trails from the base camp, including the 5 kilometer trail to the peak, which many people like to do in the early morning to make it for a spectacular sunrise.
