Cruz de Alajuelita

Posted on April 18, 2025December 16, 2024 by Ultimate Guide

About: This is one of many hikes in the mountains to the Southwest of Downtown San Jose. Many of the trails connect, allowing different entry and exit points, though this can make it difficult to find your way. Make sure that you don’t hike alone if you are not good at hiking poorly marked trails or are not a skilled hiker in general. There are companies and groups that offered organized tours to many of the nearby hikes. Bring plenty of snacks and water, check weather conditions, and go early in the day.

Province: San Jose

Starting from: Downtown San Jose

Time to reach from starting location: 27 minutes

Time needed for activity: 2.5+ hours

Kid friendly: No

Wheelchair accessible: No

What to wear and bring: Comfortable clothes, walking or hiking shoes, sunscreen, insect repellent, hat, sunglasses, poncho or rain jacket, camera, backpack, water, snacks, pack lunch

Tips: The trail can get especially muddy and slippery during the rainy season, so good hiking shoes and ideally hiking poles are necessary.
