About: This is a true hidden gem! While it is a little bit out of the way for a pit stop, if you can swing it, it will be worth your while. This private reserve offers hiking trails that lead to the “green lagoon”, a volcanic lagoon that is a brilliant green color. The views are unbeatable as you make your way through different landscapes. In addition, there is a wide variety of flora and fauna, especially birds, of which there are 144 reported species including the Resplendent Quetzal. At the entrance there is a little pond where you can find frogs if you look closely; they camouflage very well! There is a restaurant that serves lunch, which is worth it over bringing your own. The majority of the reserve is inside the limits of Juan Castro Blanco National Park and it is the main access point to the national park.
