Penca Beach

Posted on December 12, 2025April 3, 2025 by Ultimate Guide

About: This used to be a hidden gem among locals, but has gained popularity over recent years, so much so that a Waldorf Astoria Hotel is now being built here. By the time it is finished, the hotel may limit easy land access, and though the beach will always be open to the public by law, visitors who wish to visit may have to do so by boat. Follow the paved road until the end where there is a makeshift parking lot due to the ongoing construction. There are two trails that go to Penca Beach or Calzon de Pobre Beach, both of which have a decent decline, but it is manageable. Penca Beach itself is gorgeous, with white sand and calm, blue waters. It is a snorkeling paradise and a great place to watch the sunset. There are some locals selling snacks, but bring your own if you plan on staying all day. Just don’t bring more than you are willing to carry down the trail. There is plenty of shade and you may even see some wildlife. There are no bathrooms.
