About: This natural formation is a giant rock in the mountains near the town of Aserri. It is a relatively short hike, though the elevation gain is steep and the trail is rocky. The trail passes by local pastures, where you may encounter the owners working the field. There is an offshoot trail that leads to the “witch’s cave”, which involves some local myths. Be careful with red ant hills near the offshoot. Once you reach the rock you can climb on top of it and enjoy views of the city below while eating a snack. It is unique in that it doesn’t face the majority of the San Jose area but rather East toward Cartago.
