About: This national park is popular among foreigners and locals alike. There are two sectors, Sector Pailas and Sector Santa Maria. This post refers to Sector Pailas. It has two main sections. The first is a circular trail, Las Pailas Trail, that is about 3 kilometers long. It passes various points of interest related to the volcanic activity like the fumaroles (vents) and mud pots, which are very unique to see. The second section contains 2 waterfalls. The trail to reach the waterfalls branches about 2 kilometers in, and each waterfall is then another 2.5-3 kilometers further. They close this section at 12pm since it can take several hours to complete. Swimming is not permitted as it is a national park. However, there is a popular waterfall just outside the park, the Oropendola Waterfall, where you can swim. The third section is the crater section, but it is closed due to activity. There is a gift shop, but no food is sold here.
