Turtles Hatchery Verdiazul

Posted on May 23, 2026April 25, 2025 by Ultimate Guide

About: This is a permanent hatchery on Junquillal Beach. Although it is permanent, turtle nesting is seasonal, so there may not always be turtles nesting or hatching. However, they are a nesting site for 4 out of 7 sea turtles in the world: Leatherback, Olive Ridley, Black, and Hawksbill. Because each species has a different nesting season, there is nesting nearly year-round. This hatchery works to protect the nests to help ensure the majority of hatchlings survive and make it back to the ocean. They don’t give formal or official tours, but if you are lucky to stop by at the right time, you can talk to their volunteers who will gladly give you information and show you what they are working on. You may get lucky to see turtles hatch or even help return them to the water. If there is no one around, you can walk around the outside of the hatchery to see what it looks like.
